What are the chances your family wins Champion Dorper Ewe at the 2018 North American Livestock Exposition? What are chances that you had been a past media intern and the current media intern by chance chose to interview you about your family’s big win?
This is the story of Brenda Lobdell and her husband Tim who own and operate Lobdell Dorper’s in Freeport, Illinois.
They began raising the hardy, haired sheep back in 2008 but have raised sheep for the past 20 years. In addition to raising sheep, the family’s roots run deep in the agricultural industry.
As a young agriculturalist, Brenda served as an official North American Internal Livestock Media Intern. Today, she serves as the Executive Director at the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation.
“Showing Dorpers are the glue that holds our family together,” said Brenda Dorper. “It’s something we do as a family. We get to be involved in the agricultural community, and it’s a way to provide some income as well.”
The livestock industry may be small but there is no question it is mighty. You never know who you might meet, what you could learn or the impact you may have on someone.
